What can I use a corten steel pergola for?

A corten steel pergola is an attractive element for your outdoor space, consisting of vertical posts connected by cross beams. These beams can serve as support for climbing plants such as roses or ivy. In addition to decorative purposes, a pergola also offers practical benefits, such as creating shade on sunny days by adding a shade cloth. This provides a pleasant place to relax or dine outdoors. Pergolas can also be used to hang hammocks, swings and lights. They are available in several varieties, making them suitable for many gardens and outdoor spaces.

What is the pergola made of?

This pergola is made of high-quality Corten-A steel, a metal alloy composed of iron, copper, phosphorus, silicon, nickel and chromium. The unique characteristic of Corten steel is the formation of a dense oxide skin, which acts as a protective rust layer. This layer prevents rusting through and protects the inner material from further oxidation while the process of corrosion continues slowly.

Upon delivery, the pergola is in its original gray metal color, without rusting. Within a period of two to six months a beautiful brown/orange rust layer will form, this is a natural process. If you have the pergola outside, various weather conditions will cause the element to rust. During this rusting process, the pergola may shed some rust, which is part of the properties of Corten steel.
