Frequently Asked Questions
Our fiberglass planters are made of glass fibre reinforced plastic: a combination of strong fibres and high-quality plastic. This composition makes the planter exceptionally dimensionally stable, durable and resistant to temperature fluctuations. In addition, the fiberglass planters are coloured all the way through and the wall thickness is 3 mm.
Yes, the bottom plates of modular planters and our crushed lawn edging are available in high-quality Sendzimir galvanised steel. This type of steel is immersed in a zinc bath after rolling, creating a protective layer against rust and other weather influences.
The zinc layer forms a strong barrier against moisture and air, keeping the steel protected for a long time. The result is a durable and low-maintenance product that lasts for years, even with intensive outdoor use.
We advise against using Corten steel and powder coated steel within a radius of approximately 5 km from the coast due to the high salt concentration in the air. Please note that the warranty becomes void when our powder coated steel products are used in these areas.
The coating applied to the products is UV-resistant and does not discolour.
Our standard colours in the colour selector are powder coated with a matt finish. If you would like a colour in a different finish such as silk gloss or fine texture, please view the options in our colour selector.
You can have your product coated in any RAL colour from our colour selector. MySteel offers three standard RAL colours, namely RAL7016 (anthracite), RAL9010 (white) and RAL9005 (black). Any other RAL colour from our colour selector can be ordered at an additional cost.
Powder coating is an electrostatic process in which powder is applied to the metal using a spray gun. During curing in the oven, the powder particles first become liquid due to the heat, then viscous, and finally the powder is cured into a beautiful, durable coating. MySteel offers the RAL colours white, anthracite and black as standard. Of course, it is possible to have the planter powder coated in any other desired RAL colour from our colour selector. All planter panels are pre-treated and finished with a two-layer powder coating with a minimum coating thickness of 100 microns. This coating protects the steel against weather influences and ensures that the product has a longer lifespan.
Powder coated steel or aluminium requires little maintenance. However, it is important to clean a powder coated product that is kept outdoors regularly. Use a soft cloth or brush with lukewarm water or a mild soap solution to clean the surface. Avoid aggressive detergents. Rinse the product with water after cleaning and dry it thoroughly. Bird droppings should be removed immediately, as they can affect the material. Over time, small scratches may appear. Larger scratches or damage can be prevented by not sliding objects with sharp or rough edges across the product.
No, Corten steel is not toxic. Unlike other types of steel, Corten steel does not require any additional treatment. It does not need to be painted to protect it against corrosion. This means no toxic substances are released during use.
Rust formation on Corten steel is caused by the combination of iron, water and oxygen. It forms a stable rust layer (patina) under the influence of alternating wet and dry conditions. This mainly happens in places where there is enough oxygen. In the ground, this process is much slower because less oxygen is available there.
Corten steel is supplied in a grey metallic colour and is therefore not yet fully rusted upon delivery. Sometimes small rust spots may already be visible, but once the product is placed outside, the rusting process starts naturally – usually within two weeks to several months. The full process takes one to two years and results in a robust, protective rust layer with a warm appearance.
Under normal conditions, Corten steel lasts at least 25 years. Under less favourable conditions, it still lasts at least 10 years. Local conditions, such as humidity, soil salinity, soil acidity, oxygen availability and sulphur content, have a significant impact on its lifespan.
We use hot rolled Corten steel.
Corten steel is an alloy of iron with copper, phosphorus, silicon, nickel and chromium. The name Corten consists of two abbreviations: COR (corrosion resistant) and TEN (tensile strength). This means that Corten steel has a high resistance to corrosion and a strong mechanical strength.
Yes, during the rusting process Corten steel can release rust water or rust particles. This is normal and part of the development of the protective rust layer. Once the process is complete, the shedding stops and the steel becomes more resistant to wear and corrosion.
Would you like to prevent stains? Then temporarily place a sheet under the product or let the rusting process take place on grass or soil. This way, you protect your terrace or paving and can enjoy the robust appearance of Corten steel without any worries.
To speed up the rusting process, we offer a special rust accelerator that can easily be ordered on our website. This rust accelerator helps optimise the process and ensures you can enjoy the beautiful orange/brown rust colour that makes Corten steel so distinctive more quickly. For the best result, we also recommend ordering the degreaser. This product ensures that the surface of the steel is optimally prepared for the rust accelerator. Both products are available separately or together as a competitively priced combi deal.
Corten steel does not require any maintenance. You place the product in the garden and nature does the rest. The product starts the rusting process after two weeks to several months. Depending on external influences, this process takes one to two years.
Corten steel products are delivered in the natural grey metal colour. After the product is placed outside, the rusting process begins within a few weeks to several months. This gives the steel its characteristic orange/brown colour. The rust layer slows down further oxidation, protecting the underlying material. The complete rusting process takes 1 to 2 years, depending on weather influences such as rain, humidity and temperature changes.
Corten steel requires very little maintenance, making it perfect for use in the garden. After the product is placed outside, the rusting process begins within a few weeks to several months. This gives the steel its characteristic orange/brown colour. The rust layer slows down further oxidation, protecting the underlying material. The complete rusting process takes 1 to 2 years, depending on the weather conditions.
Maintenance and cleaning of our Corten steel products is simple. Rinse off dirt with clean tap water, preferably using a soft water jet that you distribute evenly over the entire surface. Do not use acidic or abrasive cleaning agents, as these can affect the material.

Our fiberglass planters are delivered without holes in the base.
Therefore, first drill one or more holes in the base using a metal drill bit.
This prevents water from collecting and keeps the roots healthy.
Place a layer of hydro granules or pebbles of approximately 10 cm high at the bottom of the planter. This promotes proper drainage. Make sure the drainage holes remain clear.
Apply a permeable root cloth over the granules to prevent the soil from sinking between them. Let the cloth run at least 10 cm up along the sides for optimal performance.
Cover the root cloth with an airy soil mix suitable for the chosen planting. Important: do not press the soil down too firmly. The planter is designed for natural aeration. Too much pressure can put unnecessary strain on the material. Fill the planter until you have approximately 5 cm of space left at the top edge.
Ensure a flat, solid and level surface. An uneven surface can cause tension in the planter.
Leave 1 cm of space around the planter. This helps prevent moisture build-up, promotes healthy air circulation and extends the lifespan of your planter.
The fiberglass planter is only suitable for outdoor use because it is not watertight.
Our fiberglass planters are colour finished with a coating. The fiberglass itself is used in the same shade as the coating. This means the fiberglass planters are coloured all the way through.
Because our fiberglass planters have a long lifespan, they can certainly be called highly durable.
The top edge of our fiberglass planter is double folded, making it several centimetres wide. Because you often also see the top of the planter, this gives it an attractive appearance.
The fiberglass planters are made in one piece and are therefore not available in a demountable version.
The planters are made from a lightweight material. Unlike our steel planters, the fiberglass planters are lightweight.
The wall thickness is 3 mm.
Fiberglass planters are very low maintenance. Occasionally removing dust with a soft brush and cleaning with a soft damp cloth or sponge is enough to remove dirt and deposits. Avoid aggressive cleaning agents and abrasive sponges to keep the attractive finish intact.
Many of our Corten steel and powder coated planters are modular. They are delivered as a kit, consisting of separate panels and corner pieces and, where necessary, connector pieces and coupling braces that can be easily and invisibly assembled with nuts and bolts. You will find a clear manual under each product in the webshop. The folded edge of a modular planter is 4 cm wide and 2 cm deep.
For most demountable models, a separate 2 mm galvanised steel base plate is available. Useful if you place the planter on tiles, decking or a paved surface. In sand, gravel or grass, a base plate is usually not necessary. All base plates are fitted with drainage holes. Please note: the colour of the base plate differs from the panels because it is made of galvanised steel.
Our welded planters are made in one piece, without seams or gaps. They are delivered ready to use and can be placed immediately. The folded edge here is 5 cm wide and 2.5 cm deep. Welded planters with a base also have sufficient drainage holes in the bottom.
For proper drainage, we recommend first placing a layer of pebbles (approx. 10 cm) at the bottom of the planter, with a permeable anti-root cloth above it. This helps prevent water from building up and mould from forming. This extends the lifespan of the planter and keeps your plants healthy.
Please note: do not use hydro granules in our steel planters, as they retain too much moisture. This may reduce the lifespan of the steel planters.
For the planters where adjustable feet or castors are available, you can select this option during the checkout process. If this option is not listed, the filled planter is too heavy for the use of adjustable feet or castors.
The base plates are made of galvanised steel.
In most cases, the base plate can be ordered separately as an optional extra.
The folded edge of the welded planters is 5 cm wide and 2.5 cm deep.
The folded edge of the modular planters is 4 cm wide and 2 cm deep.
Unlike with other planters, hydro granules are not suitable for a steel planter. Hydro granules remain permanently moist, which can shorten the lifespan of the steel planter.
Demountable triangular planters
Demountable and welded square planters
Demountable and welded rectangular planters
Demountable L-shaped planters
Demountable hexagonal planters
Demountable octagonal planters
Welded cone-shaped planters
The demountable planters have the following options:
Without base
With base
With castors
On legs
With bench
The welded planters with a base always have fixed feet measuring 4 cm x 4 cm x 1.5 cm high.
The welded planters without a base plate do not have feet.
A large number of our planters are modular, which means they are delivered to you as a kit. The planter then consists of separate panels, supplemented with the required parts. The different parts can be invisibly connected and are easy to assemble using nuts and bolts. Under each planter in the webshop, you will find a manual with more information on how this works.
If you have ordered a welded planter, it will consist of one single piece and does not need to be assembled.
MySteel recommends first placing a layer of pebbles (10 cm) at the bottom of the steel planter.
Place a permeable root cloth over the 10 cm layer of pebbles. Then cover the root cloth with soil suitable for your type of plants up to approximately 5 cm below the rim.
If no pebbles and permeable root cloth are used in steel planters with a base, the water cannot drain properly and water may remain in the corners, which could cause mould to develop, or the material may eventually rust through. These issues are not good for the planters.
For steel planters without a base that are placed directly on soil or lawn, this filling advice is not necessary.
The lawn edging is available in three different profile types: straight profile, crushed profile and folded profile. With the straight lawn edging of 240 cm, you can create curves and circles with a diameter greater than 160 cm (radius 80 cm). With the crushed lawn edging of 240 cm, you can only create slight bends, so no smaller circles. However, with the crushed lawn edging in the 240 cm length, it is possible to create a circle with a diameter of 5 metres. The crushed flex lawn edging of 240 cm is ideal for creating curves and making circles larger than 160 cm in diameter (radius 80 cm). The folded lawn edging is not suitable for curves, you can only create straight lines with it.
Self-tapping screws (self-tapping sheet metal screws) made of galvanised steel are designed in such a way that, through the turning motion, they create their own screw hole (tap) in the steel you are working with.
You do need to pre-drill: preferably using the thickness of the core of the self-tapping screw.
No, the lawn edging is a straight strip and cannot be supplied on a roll.
You can shorten the lawn edging yourself to the desired length. For example, an angle grinder can be used for this. Custom-sized lawn edging is available with a minimum order of 50 linear metres. Please contact us for this via the custom work form.
We recommend placing the lawn edging at least 5 cm into the ground.
To install the lawn edging easily, you can use the connector plates that join each edging strip together, as well as ground pins that are fitted every metre. These can be easily installed using self-tapping screws.
We recommend placing the lawn edging at least 5 cm into the ground.
You can shorten the lawn edging yourself to the desired length. For example, an angle grinder can be used for this.
If required, we can custom-make the lawn edging for you. Custom lawn edging is only produced with a minimum order of 50 linear metres. Please contact our sales department for the additional costs involved: offerte@mysteel.nl
A cover profile is a way to create a high-quality and strong edging. With cover profiles, existing stacking blocks or concrete edges can be clad with steel. The cover profiles are produced in-house by our specialists.
Thanks to the wide 20 cm bottom edge and the pressure of the soil, the retaining wall will remain upright and does not need to be buried.
Retaining walls are intended to create large height differences in the garden. They can hold back soil. In addition, they are extremely strong, which means they can support a raised terrace, lawn or border.
Lawn edging is intended to separate the different elements in the garden. Think of the lawn, borders, terrace, paving, flower boxes, walkways and so on.
The retaining walls are available in Corten steel and powder coated steel. Retaining walls are supplied with 4 nuts and bolts, making it easy to connect multiple retaining walls together.
Stepping stones can be placed anywhere in the garden. On gravel, the lawn, between plants or in other areas of the garden. They can simply be placed in the soil or on the lawn. The lawn mower can easily pass over them. Stepping stones are available in different shapes and sizes. The stepping stones are flat on both sides without sharp pins.
The letterbox consists of several separate parts that are delivered in packages. This means the letterbox still needs to be assembled.
This can easily be done using the included fixings and manual.
The letterbox is available in 2 sizes. All letterboxes feature an open posting slot at the front and a mail retrieval door with a key lock at the back.
The letterbox is available in Corten steel. Corten steel is frost-resistant, heat-resistant, strong and maintenance-free.
The pergola can be used as decoration, as a support for climbing plants, and for hanging lighting, a swing or a hammock. Please note, we do not recommend drilling holes in the pergola, but instead using knots to attach a swing or hammock to the pergola.
A pergola is a structure that consists of vertical posts connected at the top by horizontal beams.
The pergola is available in Corten steel and powder coated steel.
With the exception of the cube log store, the log stores are fitted with drainage holes.
Our log store is available in both Corten steel and powder coated steel. The exception is the cube models – these are only available in Corten steel.
The picnic table is available in size S, M and L.
Size S: 160x163x75
Size M: 200x163x75
Size L: 240x163x75
The picnic table is delivered to your home as a modular package and is easy to assemble. The picnic tables are supplied with a manual.
The picnic table is made of powder coated steel, combined with Douglas wood.
The pedestal can be used both indoors and outdoors. If you wish to place the pedestal indoors, it must first go through the rusting process outside.
A Corten steel pedestal is a sturdy, decorative column. The pedestal is hollow inside and open at the bottom. The pedestals are available in different sizes.
As standard, the staircase is available in Corten steel and black powder coating. If you would like the staircase in a different RAL colour, please visit the custom work page on the website or email our sales department at offerte@mysteel.nl.
Yes, the garden staircase is available in limited custom sizes. We offer standard models, but custom work is possible up to a maximum height of 8 steps and a width of 3 metres. For custom work, you can fill in the form on our website or email offerte@mysteel.nl.
Please note that the 17 cm height and 24 cm depth of the steps are fixed and cannot be adjusted. These standard dimensions ensure optimal safety and walking comfort.
The height of the steps is 17 cm, and the depth of each step is 24 cm.
When it is damp outside due to rain or winter weather, the steps may become slippery. We advise taking this into account when using the staircase in these weather conditions.
There is a tube in the water table through which the wiring runs. If this is not properly sealed with the supplied flexible rubber cover, water may slowly leak out.
To prevent this, we supply a sealing cover as standard. Seal the tube properly with this to keep the water level stable and prevent unnecessary water loss.
The water table with one fountain uses 25 watts per hour. The water table with two fountains uses 40 watts per hour. The water table with three fountains uses 60 watts per hour.
Fill the water table until the pump is well under water and up to a maximum just below the top of the tube inside the water table, which is used to guide the wiring.
There is a small valve on the pump that allows you to adjust the height of the water jet. We recommend setting the water jet as low as possible to minimise water loss.
The colour of the LED lighting is cool white.
The pump and the LED lighting have a cable length of 10 metres.
We install the pump(s) and any LED lighting correctly in the water table for you. You only need to fill the water table with water and plug the plugs into the socket.
Available in powder coated aluminium or in Corten steel in different shapes and sizes. Custom work is also possible. Please fill in the form on our custom work page for this.
To keep your water table in top condition, some maintenance is required.
Every few months, we recommend emptying the water table and cleaning all parts thoroughly with water.
The pH value of the water must always be neutral. (7)
It is important that after installation and during initial use, the pH value of the water is tested once every 2 weeks. If the pH value remains neutral (7), testing can be reduced slightly.
Keep checking it regularly!
Only use pH+ and pH- to make the water neutral (7). Using other products may void the warranty.
Always follow the (safety) instructions of the pH+ and pH- product. The product must always be added to the water. So not into an empty water table.
If the pH value is not kept neutral (7), this can affect the water table.
Blown-in leaves and branches should be removed from the water table top. These have a negative effect on the water quality and the quality of the material.
Stones, rust particles, etc. larger than 5 mm are stopped by the filter in the pump.
The filter must be cleaned regularly. Otherwise, the pump may break down.
Please note: do not use chlorine or salt in the water table, as this can damage the material.
Before the winter period begins, we recommend emptying the water table as much as possible and removing the water pump. Store the pump indoors in a dry place to prevent freezing.
If it is not possible to remove the pump, disconnect the hose and wrap the pump in, for example, bubble wrap for extra protection. By doing this in time, you can prevent damage and enjoy your water table again without worries in spring.
A pellet patio heater is a mobile outdoor heater that runs on wood pellets, a natural fuel made from compressed sawdust. Unlike electric or gas-fired patio heaters, a pellet heater is completely cordless and low in CO2 emissions. Thanks to a smart air supply, it creates a powerful, stable flame that is visible behind glass – for atmosphere, comfort and a luxurious appearance.
The patio heaters are for outdoor use. Without a flue, the patio heater cannot be used in an enclosed canopy.
1: Make sure the pellet patio heater is placed on a flat surface and is perfectly upright. Fill the pellet tank with compressed sawdust pellets.
2: Apply a small amount of plant-based fuel on top of the pellets.
3: Open the air valve (damper).
4: Use a long lighter to ignite the pellets (light for approximately 2 minutes until a stable flame appears).
5: Due to the natural process, it is not possible to stop the process early. The pellets must burn out completely within a cycle of approximately 2 hours. It is possible to refill the heater while the pellets are burning.
Please note: the glass tube and metal parts become hot during use. Never open the combustion chamber during burning or cooling.
The patio heaters are for outdoor use. Without a flue, the patio heater cannot be used in an enclosed canopy.
1: Make sure the pellet patio heater is placed on a flat surface. Fill the pellet tank with compressed sawdust pellets up to 3 cm below the rim.
2: Apply a small amount of plant-based fuel on top of the pellets and ignite it using a long gas lighter.
3: Place the tank back into the unit and close the door.
4: Connect the power bank via USB and set the control panel to the desired setting: L for normal power (approximately 3.5 hours burn time), M for medium power, H for maximum power (shorter burn time).
5: Enjoy the warmth and atmosphere without any further action – the unit extinguishes automatically. The cooling phase can take 30 minutes, after which it is possible to refill the burner.
Please note: never open the door during use or while cooling down!
After each use: Always allow the unit to cool down completely first. Remove the glass tube and clean the combustion chamber with a brush. If necessary, remove ash residues from the bottom holes and fire pot using a steel brush or vacuum cleaner. Regular maintenance extends the lifespan and guarantees safe operation.
Periodically: Clean the glass tube with a soft cloth and special glass cleaner. Check the air supply for blockages.
After each use: Allow the unit to cool down completely. Remove ash residues from the fire pot and tank using the supplied brush and clean the glass if necessary with a suitable glass cleaner for stoves. Regular maintenance extends the lifespan and guarantees safe operation.
Weekly: Vacuum the lower compartment and check the air inlet openings, making sure the flue gas outlet clamps are clean and free from obstructions.
End of season: Disconnect the power bank and clean the entire unit, including the ventilation unit (using a brush and vacuum cleaner).
The patio heaters are made of a black steel or Corten steel frame with four glass panels around the combustion chamber. This keeps the flame clearly visible at all times while also being safely shielded. The reflector on top ensures optimal heat distribution. Thanks to the four wheels, two of which have brakes, the patio heater is easy to move.
With the Rocket patio heater, the round glass tube is set within the black steel or Corten steel frame.
The pellet patio heaters run on wood pellets, a renewable and clean energy source. You do not need a power connection and you avoid unnecessary emissions. This allows you to enjoy outdoor living responsibly – even on cooler evenings.
Thanks to the wheels, the patio heaters are easy to move. Ideal if you want to arrange your outdoor space flexibly or temporarily move the patio heater.
The pellet patio heaters run on compressed sawdust pellets. Preferably use high-quality certified wood pellets (for example ENplus A1) for an almost CO2-neutral combustion, low smoke development, high heat output and minimal ash formation, and therefore less maintenance.
No, thanks to the use of a rechargeable power bank, no power connection is required – so you have complete flexibility in where you place it.
When using high-quality certified wood pellets (for example ENplus A1), you can enjoy up to 3.5 hours of silent, odourless warmth per fill, with minimal smoke development and a low environmental impact. This depends on which type of patio heater you choose.
The Rocket provides 2 hours of warmth per fill.
The Square provides 3.5 hours of warmth per fill.
