These edgings are manufactured from high-quality Corten-A steel plate. This type of metal has the unique property of forming a very dense oxide skin (rust layer). Rusting through is therefore impossible. Because of the dense oxide layer, the deeper lying material is protected from oxygen, which slows down the oxidation considerably while the corrosion continues. The edge protection is delivered untreated, in the gray metallic color. The brown/orange rust layer forms within weeks to months and does not require any treatment. During the rusting process, the edge protection may peel off. Corten steel is a metal alloy consisting of iron to which copper, phosphorus, silicon, nickel and chromium have been added.
